California or Bust: Day 7

Yesterday was a short scenic drive from Reno to Roseville, and included some stops which brought back nostalgic memories of camp to both of us.  Along our route we took some time to visit Lake Tahoe, Sutter’s Mill, and family in Roseville.  It was refreshing way to spend a Sunday afternoon on a road trip.

As we were leaving Reno, NV, we went wild and gambled $1 in a slot machine.  It whirled and twirled…and we lost our dollar.  Oh well.

State #11 – California, the final state in our eleven state road trip across the country.  Good thing, too, as we were running out of fingers.

We took a detour from I-80 down to Lake Tahoe.  The lake is beautiful, and we enjoyed taking pictures at multiple locations.  This picture is of Emerald Bay.  We stopped here and hiked a bit to a waterfall nearby.  Gorgeous, breathtaking, inspirational; after going through the desert, Lake Tahoe was a refreshing sight teeming with life of all sorts.

While driving down from Lake Tahoe we stopped at Sutter’s Mill, the location at which gold was first discovered and which created the Gold Rush to California.  The state just wouldn’t be what it is today without this event.  Mandy offered a very convincing reenactment of the eureka discovery.

Our day ended with family.  We arrived at Cung-Cung and Debi’s house in Roseville and had time to catch up with one another over a delicious home-cooked meal (complete with two slices each of cheesecake for dessert).  Today, we get to see the beach!
